This month last year I traveled to North Carolina with Addie.

We arrived in the total dark. You've heard of torrential rain? Yep, we arrived in that too.

The house was situated on the highest mountain I've ever scaled in a vehicle. We scaled it twice because we thought the house was at the top; an hour later, we realized our new red home was toward the first major ascent, not the last.

The back patio looked over a meadow; the rest of the house looked over the patio.
There were bookshelves everywhere and an immense quiet.

These photos are from the first roll of film I shot in our shared Black Mountain home. I've never posted them before, not for any particular reason... except for the fact that I don't share most of what I make. Because I'm traveling, however, the only photos I have to share are the ones on an old external hard drive.

I found this hard drive about fifteen minutes before I got on a plane last Tuesday. I threw a few files from the last couple of months on it, but when I plugged it in this morning I was distracted by a folder titled Negative Scans 2009-2011.

In an hour or so, Addie and I will both pick up our processed film -- our first rolls of film shot in NYC this year together.

We arrived in the dark, and, yes, we arrived in the rain again.
We climbed the longest four flights of stairs and slept in what most people would call an attic.

Days later, we are in the midst of a more comfortable space (minus one very intimidating cat):
books everywhere, the 1 train galloping by every ten minutes or so, a marble staircase, a door covered in the photos from an ultrasound, succulents over the windows like polka-dots, old New Yorkers and a few banjos.

And some very strange light.

If I'm lucky, I'll have new photos I want to share with you soon.
