Art & The Park

We ventured out of the 'burbs on Sunday and had a picnic in The Domain, followed by a trip to the art gallery. AMAZING! We were fortunate enough to have coincided our visit with that of an indigenous Australian didgeridoo player giving a demonstration of Aboriginal musical instruments. He was incredibly interesting and the kids loved it. I did manage to take some shots of some of the paintings in the art gallery - you are allowed, just not of any Aboriginal work. I loved seeing their eyes light up with fascination at all that they were seeing.

Their enthusiasm knew no bounds on the return journey - "Did you see that painting with the bushrangers? What about that statue made from marble? How cool was that boxy painting with all the different colours - I reckon I could totally do one of those!"

As busy as we get, I hope we never get so busy that we forget to bring these snapshots of the wider world into their circle of interest. It's too easy to get stuck in a routine where each weekend is a whirlwind of sport, grocery shopping, cooking and church. These are all essential activities, but I hope that we as a family keep on branching out every now and then and provide some new reference points for our journey together.
